According to the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration (KMVA), the city administration aimed to shift responsibility away from itself by making this decision.
The decision by the capital's administration to disembark passengers from public transport during air alerts puts people at additional risk, as Kyiv's stops are not equipped with shelters.
This was stated by KMVA chief Timur Tkachенко during the roundtable discussion titled "Ensuring Reliable Public Transport Operations During Air Alerts in Kyiv" on Wednesday, January 29.
“I understand the purpose of this decision – it absolves those who made it of responsibility in case any situation arises. But I want to say that we are in our positions specifically to take on that responsibility, ensuring that it is both comfortable and safe for people first and foremost,” said Timur Tkachенко.
The KMVA chief also reminded that residents of Kyiv have repeatedly submitted petitions to revoke the ban on public transport movement during air alerts.
“Therefore, this decision needs to be reviewed, and it should be done as soon as possible, as the people of Kyiv demand it,” emphasized the head of the capital's military administration.
Reminder: earlier, Timur Tkachенко stated that restoring full transport movement between the left and right banks during air alerts would be one of his priorities in his new role.
