Experts will examine the site and determine the type and scope of work
Foreign partners have expressed their readiness to invest again in the restoration of the protective confinement shell of the fourth reactor block at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, which was damaged due to a targeted strike by a Russian drone on the night of February 14 this year.
This was reported during the broadcast of “Suspilne. Studio” by the head of the State Agency of Ukraine for the Management of the Exclusion Zone, Hryhoriy Ishchenko.
According to him, once firefighters extinguish the smoldering filler of the external cladding of the arch over the reactor block, specialists will assess the site and determine what specific work needs to be done.
At the same time, Ishchenko assured that there had been no radiation leakage following the attack by the Russian drone on Chernobyl. The prolonged duration of extinguishing the smoldering area is due to the structural features of the building.
“The building is unique; there are no analogs to it in the world. It stands 108 meters tall—approximately the height of a 40-story building. The features of the arch complicate the work,” emphasized the head of the State Agency.
It is worth noting that on the night of February 14, a Russian strike drone with an explosive warhead hit the shelter of the fourth reactor block at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant.
