Devices will aid in combating traffic rule violations

Residents of the capital are urging the city authorities to instruct the relevant authorized structures to increase the number of speed violation cameras and monitoring of private vehicles using the public transport lane on the city roads.

A corresponding petition on this matter has been posted on the Kyiv City Council's website.

As the initiative's authors explain, under current legislation, lanes designated for public transport are intended solely for the movement of buses, trolleybuses, taxis, and special vehicles. However, violations of this rule by private car drivers in the capital are widespread, significantly hindering public transport movement and creating dangers on the roads.

The capital is also facing a pressing issue of speeding, which is one of the primary causes of serious traffic accidents.

The signatories of the document are convinced that despite the presence of a certain number of automatic enforcement cameras, they are still insufficient for effective monitoring and prevention of violations. Therefore, city residents propose increasing the number of traffic enforcement cameras on public transport lanes along key highways in Kyiv, installing them at intervals of one kilometer. Speed monitoring cameras should be installed at all of the city's most accident-prone areas.

Moreover, residents believe that proper oversight should be implemented to ensure timely processing of recorded violations to enhance the level of punishment and discipline among drivers on the roads.

Recall that last year, drivers in the capital ranked among the top three most notorious traffic rule violators in the country.
