Last year, over one hundred people lost their lives on the capital's roads
Residents of Kyiv are urging the members of the Kyiv City Council to revoke a previously adopted decision that permits a seasonal increase in the maximum allowable speed for vehicles on certain roads in the capital.
A corresponding petition has been posted on the Kyiv City Council's website regarding this matter.
As the authors of the initiative explained, during the past year, 107 individuals died in traffic accidents on the capital's roads, including pedestrians, drivers, and passengers, while an additional 2,444 road users sustained injuries. Therefore, the signatories of the document believe that, in the context of war, the city authorities must exert every effort to prevent injuries and fatalities, particularly on the streets of the capital.
It should be noted that since 2019, a decision by the Kyiv City Council dated 09.10.2018 No. 1739/5803 has been in effect, which allows for speed increases from 50 to 80 km/h on 17 sections of road from April 1 to November 1, contingent upon police approval.
As a reminder, taxi drivers from services like Uklon, Bolt, and Uber are calling on the city authorities to allow them to operate during the curfew.
