The Agricultural and Food Quality Inspection of Poland (IJHARS) in Rzeszów has decided to prohibit the circulation of a batch of hard wheat weighing a total of 21,998 tons, imported from Ukraine, on the Polish market.
As reported by the inspection on the social media platform X last Friday, the decision was made due to the low protein content in the batch of hard wheat.
The decision was implemented immediately.
IJHARS inspectors from Rzeszów made a similar decision to ban the import of eight batches of rice weighing 200 tons, imported from Myanmar, due to the presence of dead pests in them.
It was reported that IJHARS has intensified its control over agricultural products entering Poland since March 2024. The Chief Inspector of IJHARS, Przemysław Rzodkiewicz, stated in March that in 2023, 1.4% of batches of products from Ukraine that were inspected at the border were rejected.
Throughout the year, Poland has imposed bans on the import of 22.59 tons of flax seeds, 46 tons of brewing barley, 15.61 tons of Ukrainian ice cream, 10.55 tons of biscuit cakes, 5.34 tons of bagels totaling 10.55 tons imported from Ukraine, and on April 9, bans were placed on three batches of Ukrainian bagels weighing a total of 5.34 tons and 57.66 tons of tomato paste.
In early April 2024, the Trade Inspection of Poland announced the largest fine in its history, amounting to 1.5 million zlotys (approximately $380,000), imposed on an importing company for bringing 11,500 tons of technical rapeseed and feed wheat from Ukraine into the Polish market.
