Зеленський: Україна готова допомогти Молдові подолати енергетичну кризу

Ukraine is prepared to support Moldova in overcoming its energy crisis, particularly by supplying coal.

This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelensky following a phone conversation with Moldova's President Maia Sandu.

“The energy situation in Moldova, especially on the left bank of the Dniester, is yet another attempt by Russia to use energy resources to exert pressure on the Moldovan authorities,” Zelensky noted.

He emphasized that stability in Moldova is crucial for its citizens to live peacefully, tackle poverty, and move towards the European Union in collaboration with Ukraine.

What happened in Transnistria

As of January 1, 2025, Ukraine officially ceased the transit of Russian gas that was supplied to several EU countries and the unrecognized Transnistria.

Moldova, in turn, refused to accept the conditions proposed by Russia for continuing gas supplies to Transnistria via an alternative route through the Balkans. In response, Gazprom announced on December 28, 2024, that it would stop gas supplies to the region starting in January, citing “failure to meet payment obligations.”
