On New Year's Eve, air defense shot down over 60 drones launched by Russia in an attack on Ukraine.

On the night of January 1st and the morning of the same day, Russian forces launched an attack on Ukraine using 111 Shahed strike drones and various other types of unmanned aerial vehicles. Air defense systems successfully neutralized 63 targets.

This was reported by the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Russia launched drones from the regions of Bryansk, Oryol, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, and the temporarily occupied Crimea.

The air assault was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare units, mobile fire groups of the Air Forces, and the Defense Forces of Ukraine.

As a result of combat operations, 63 drones were shot down in the Poltava, Sumy, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Zaporizhzhia, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, Kirovohrad, and Mykolaiv regions.

Due to the active resistance of the Defense Forces, 46 enemy drones were lost in terms of location, while the remaining two flew back to Russia and Belarus.

Consequences of the Attack

Kyiv was targeted by the Russians. There, drone debris fell in two districts of the capital — Pechersk and Sviatoshyn. In the latter, vehicles and garages were damaged due to the Russian attack. Additionally, the tram tracks were partially destroyed.

In the Pechersk district of Kyiv, drone fragments fell on the attic floor of a five-story residential building, causing a fire.

Six people sustained injuries. Two of them were hospitalized, while the others received assistance on-site.
