The video of the incident has been circulating online.
In the footage, a woman can be seen asking security why her child cannot use the restroom and take shelter in the establishment “especially since rockets are flying here right now.”
The guards respond that a dance competition is being held at the institute, so they cannot allow people in without instructions from their superiors.
“Once we get the order, we’ll let you in. […] If it starts going off, then we’ll let everyone in,” said the security personnel.
Acting rector of NAU, Ksenia Semenova, stated that the video showing a woman and her child being denied entry to the shelter is “being spread by Klitschko’s team and a group of paid bloggers.”
She explained that events are held at the university every weekend, organized by tenants. They have the right to hire their own contractors, including for security. Therefore, the guards who denied access to the shelter, according to her, report to the event organizers, not the educational institution.
Semenova mentioned that tenants receive safety instructions and behavioral rules during air raid alerts when signing the contract. The organizer of the dance event violated these instructions, so KAІ will no longer collaborate with him.
Additionally, the head of the institution assured that she is in contact with the video’s author, and the police, who arrived at her request, checked the shelters and found no complaints against them.
