The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, announced Kyiv's readiness to resume gas transit to the European Union, but not from Russia, rather from Azerbaijan.
He made this statement during a joint press conference with the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu.
Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine has never blocked gas exports in general but opposed the transit of Russian supplies to avoid contributing to Moscow's profits. According to him, Ukraine maintains close partnership relations with Azerbaijan and is prepared to transport Azerbaijani gas to EU countries through its territory.
Ukraine has not violated anything, either legally or morally, by halting the transit of Russian gas. However, we are more than willing to assist in transporting Azerbaijani gas and support our partners in Slovakia and other European countries, Zelensky noted.
The official transportation of Russian gas through Ukraine was halted at 7:00 AM on January 1. The European Union stated that it was prepared for such a development.
