The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, along with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Agriculture of Syria, will establish a joint working group to eliminate tariffs on Ukrainian products and food supplies, reported Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Vitaliy Koval via Telegram.
"It was a very constructive meeting with my Syrian counterpart. We discussed a clear list of goods necessary for the country. First and foremost, Syria is interested in livestock products – meat and dairy. Additionally, they need wheat, barley, vegetable oil, sugar, and flour. Under Assad's regime, there were very high tariffs on the import of goods into Syria, aimed at controlling imports and profiting from it," - he stated.
Moreover, Vitaliy Koval and the Syrian Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Mohamed Al Ahmad, discussed logistical routes for delivering Ukrainian products to Syria and cooperation in the banking sector. They addressed the objectives for simplifying the supply of agricultural products and ensuring food security.
Koval emphasized that Syria is also interested in technology transfer from Ukraine, particularly in the fields of land reclamation and hydraulic engineering, as most of the country's land requires irrigation. Additionally, they explored opportunities for mutual trade, with Ukraine supplying wheat, barley, vegetable oil, sugar, and flour, while Syria would provide nuts and fruits.
