The USA and Russia have agreed to restore the staff of their embassies in Washington and Moscow.
This was announced by Secretary of State Marco Rubio in a statement to the Associated Press.
According to him, both countries also consented to establish a high-level group to support peace negotiations regarding Ukraine and to explore the possibility of expanding cooperation, particularly in the economic sector.
The U.S. Embassy in Russia continued its operations after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022; however, its staff was significantly reduced.
Prior to this, Washington closed its consulates in Vladivostok and Yekaterinburg, leaving only a diplomatic mission in Moscow.
In April 2021, the U.S. recalled its ambassador to Russia, John Sullivan, but he returned in June of the same year following a meeting between then-President Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin.
In September 2022, Sullivan concluded his mission in Moscow and left the country. He was succeeded by Lynn Tracy as the U.S. ambassador to Russia.
