Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter has died at the age of 100, according to The Washington Post, citing Carter's son, James.
The Carter Center later confirmed the news of the former president's passing.

Jimmy Carter was elected president in 1976 as a member of the Democratic Party and served as the President of the United States from 1977 to 1981.
Prior to that, he was the Governor of Georgia (1971-1975) and a member of the state senate (1963-1967).
In the 1980 election, Carter lost to Republican Ronald Reagan and subsequently founded the Carter Center, which focuses on human rights and charitable activities.
In 2002, the former president was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for "his efforts to find peaceful solutions to conflicts around the world and to promote human rights."
In 2015, Jimmy Carter was diagnosed with cancer. In 2023, he chose to forgo further treatment and decided to spend the remainder of his life at home in Plains, Georgia, receiving hospice care.
In 2019, Carter became the longest-living president in U.S. history. He outlived two of his successors (Reagan and George H.W. Bush) and his own vice president, Walter Mondale, who passed away in April 2021.
On October 1, 2024, Carter celebrated his 100th birthday.
