According to the investigation, on March 5, 2022, Tareev issued an order to shoot at all civilians who appeared in the area of the intersection of Yablonskaya and Vodoprovodnaya streets in Bucha.
On the same day, around 11:15, Russian soldiers shot Irina Filkina, who was riding her bicycle. They fired no less than 15 bullets at her from automatic weapons and a BM-2.
In total, according to the investigation, as a result of Tareev's order, 13 peaceful residents were killed on Yablonskaya Street.
“A photo of the deceased woman with bright red nails became one of the symbols of Russian atrocities during the occupation of the Kyiv region and circulated in global media,” emphasized the city council.
On March 31, 2022, Ukrainian forces liberated Bucha and the entire Bucha community in the Kyiv region from Russian invaders. After that, information about the atrocities of the occupiers gradually began to emerge: journalists and officials started to publish videos and photographs of the deceased lying directly on the streets.
According to police data, Russian snipers fired at people from tanks and armored personnel carriers, despite the white armbands that the Russian military forced people to wear. Many Ukrainians were found dead in their homes and apartments from blast injuries. Bodies were also discovered in mass graves, often showing signs of torture.
In March 2023, Zelensky reported that due to the Russian occupation, more than 1,400 people had died in Bucha and the Bucha district, including 37 children.
According to German intelligence, intercepted radio communications from Russian military personnel regarding the mass killings in Bucha indicate that these were not random actions or deeds of individual soldiers, but rather a tactic or even a strategy of Russia to intimidate Ukrainians.
