The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, believes that the official Kyiv should "engage in realistic discussions regarding territorial issues" with Russia. He stated this on January 6 during a speech at the Élysée Palace at the traditional meeting with ambassadors and other staff from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This was reported by BFMTV.

Macron emphasized that only Ukrainians can negotiate to find a resolution to the armed conflict caused by the Russian invasion on February 24, 2022.

The United States will need to assist us in changing the nature of the situation and convincing Russia to come to the negotiating table, while Europeans will have to build security guarantees for Ukraine, which will be their main obligation.

Macron expressed doubts about the promises of a swift end to the war that came from the newly elected President of the United States, Donald Trump.

The new American president knows well that the U.S. has no chance of gaining anything if Ukraine loses, and Ukraine's capitulation will bring no benefit to either Europeans or Americans.
