The Lithuanian government approved on Wednesday the proposal from the Ministry of Economy and Innovation to ease restrictions on the export of dual-use goods by air transport to third countries, which were imposed by the previous government.

The Cabinet meeting was broadcast on YouTube.

Under the new regulations, such exports by ground transport will still be prohibited, but air transport will be allowed in accordance with European regulations. Potential sanction risks may be managed through export licensing procedures.

Additionally, exporters will be required to include a clause in contracts with buyers prohibiting the re-export of goods to Russia or other third countries. Violating these sanctions will result in a trade ban only for the offender, not for all businesses.

The Minister of Economy and Innovation, Lukas Savickas, previously stated that Lithuania can effectively monitor the implementation of sanctions against Russia and ensure that dual-use goods do not reach the Russian market.

In December of last year, the former Lithuanian government banned the export of thousands of dual-use goods by air transport to third countries (outside the EU and European Free Trade Association states), with exceptions for the USA, Japan, the UK, South Korea, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand.
