"Kovlar Group" in collaboration with the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine has developed innovative defense-related products, reported Kovlar Group’s head Konstantin Kalafat in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

"Together with leading institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, we have developed and implemented into production a universal means for urgent individual decontamination of chemical weapon components and a multi-layer anti-radar paint coating. We are currently working on a fire-resistant roll material for organizing quick mobile fire protection at defense facilities and during the restoration of energy complex structures," he stated.

Kalafat emphasized that the production of fire protection materials involves a high degree of intellectual and scientific components.

"Paint, plaster, or slabs designed for fire protection are not ordinary building materials that are evaluated based on aesthetics, strength, resistance to external influences, and so on. First and foremost, fire protection material acts as a sort of chemical reactor, the components of which must react with each other under fire conditions, ensuring regulated stability indicators of the building structure. Secondly, the fire protection industry is a very dynamic system that constantly requires materials and solutions with high fire protection and operational characteristics. For instance, over the last 10 years, the requirements for thin-layer fire-resistant paints have increased from a maximum fire resistance limit of 90 to 180 minutes," Kalafat explained.

The product set to enter the fire protection market must undergo mandatory specialized testing and certification, during which its fire protection effectiveness is determined, which is the result of scientific research for creating an effective formulation and a verdict on how promising the developed material is.

"The main prerequisite for organizing a company to produce passive fire protection means is the presence of scientific potential, experience, and knowledge that would allow for the creation of a new quality product that is competitive in the global market of similar materials," Kalafat concluded.

LLC "Kovlar Group" was established in 2015, with a charter fund of 1.2 million UAH, and the ultimate beneficiaries are Konstantin Kalafat (40%), Andrey Ozeichuk (35%), and Lyubov Vakhitova (25%). According to open data sources, by the end of the third quarter of 2024, the company reported revenues of 73 million 726.4 thousand UAH; net profit of 10 million 228.6 thousand UAH.
