The United Kingdom is set to announce a package of sanctions against Russia. These measures are aimed at enhancing support for Kyiv in its fight against Russian aggression, as reported by DW.
UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy stated that on Monday, February 24, the largest sanctions package against Russia since the onset of the Russian-Ukrainian war will be revealed.
Lammy emphasized that this is a "critical moment" for Ukraine, the UK, and all of Europe, urging for increased support for Ukraine and continued collaboration with American and European partners to achieve a just peace. He underlined that "nothing can happen in Ukraine without Ukraine."
Now is the time to tighten the screws on Russia.
Furthermore, the UK has already imposed sanctions on 1,900 individuals and organizations linked to the Russian government since Moscow's invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Lammy also confirmed the decision to provide Kyiv with £3 billion annually and expressed readiness to deploy British troops as part of peacekeeping forces if necessary.
These sanctions were announced against the backdrop of a shift in the US position, where President Donald Trump has distanced Ukraine from negotiations with Moscow in recent weeks, reinforcing the UK's determination to continue supporting Ukraine during this critical time.
