The United States may impose new sanctions against Russia if President Vladimir Putin does not agree to a peace deal that guarantees Ukraine's long-term independence. At the same time, there is also the consideration of sending American troops to Ukraine.
This was stated by U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance in an interview with the Wall Street Journal.
According to him, Washington has both economic and military tools to influence the Kremlin.
There are economic instruments of influence, and there are, of course, military ones, he emphasized.
Vance's statement came just hours after U.S. President Donald Trump announced his intention to begin negotiations to end the war in Ukraine. The Vice President noted that a peace agreement could come as a surprise to many.
I think this will lead to an agreement that will shock many people, he said.
At the same time, Vance stressed that it is still too early to discuss the details of potential agreements, including territorial issues or security guarantees for Kyiv.
There are many possible formulations and configurations, but our goal is to ensure Ukraine's sovereign independence, he stated.
