Ukraine has successfully returned 25 Ukrainians from Russian captivity. These individuals include both military personnel and civilians who are suffering from severe injuries and illnesses. This information was shared by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.
"Today, 25 of our people are coming home to Ukraine. These are our military and civilians. Among them are defenders of Mariupol and Azovstal, as well as those from Kharkiv, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson. The guys have serious injuries and illnesses. Each of them will receive all necessary medical care.
I thank the team that searches for our people and organizes this crucial work. We are grateful to the United Arab Emirates for their assistance in making today’s event possible,” wrote the head of state.
The youngest among the released is 24 years old, while the oldest is sixty. These individuals have endured a lot without proper medical care and faced inhumane treatment in enemy captivity, as reported by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
The wounded individuals suffer from various conditions, including vision loss, limb amputations, complex gunshot wounds, and the consequences of mine-explosive injuries. Among the illnesses reported are tuberculosis, cancer, and gangrene, which vividly illustrate the conditions our people have had to endure.
