Ukraine is holding consultations with international partners following a Russian drone strike on the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. The damaged sarcophagus will be repaired swiftly. This was stated by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during a government meeting.
According to the Prime Minister, the strike caused damage to the shelter that "protects the world from radiation from the fourth reactor of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant."
He noted that currently, the radiation background is normal. "We are conducting constant monitoring. All services are working on-site. We are carrying out necessary consultations with our partners. We will restore everything quickly," he added.
Shmyhal stated that this is not the first time "Russia, with its reckless actions, poses a threat of nuclear catastrophe to Europe, and Europe and the world must respond collectively to this threat."
Earlier, the State Emergency Service reported on the radiation background situation following the strike on the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant.
