The National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) has today imposed sanctions against oligarchs due to threats to the national security, territorial integrity, and sovereignty of Ukraine. This was reported on the Telegram channel of the Security Service of Ukraine.
Indefinite sanctions have been introduced against five individuals, including:
- Igor Kolomoisky;
- Gennady Bogolyubov;
- Konstantin Zhevago;
- Petro Poroshenko;
- Viktor Medvedchuk.
Reasons for the sanctions
Proposals for the imposition of sanctions were brought to the NSDC's attention due to:
- existing threats to national security, territorial integrity, and sovereignty of Ukraine;
- obstruction of sustainable economic development by the sanctioned individuals.
The Security Service notes that today the majority of these oligarchs are involved in criminal proceedings, which are under investigation by the Security Service or other law enforcement agencies.
For instance, earlier, Poroshenko and Medvedchuk were notified of suspicion in:
- high treason;
- aiding the activities of a terrorist organization and other charges.
It is noted that during Poroshenko's presidency, he placed Ukraine in an energy dependency on Russia and its controlled leaders of the pseudo-republics.
Recall that the NSDC has imposed lifelong sanctions against Poroshenko.
