On the night of January 28, Russia launched a hundred Shahed-type unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and decoy drones against Ukraine. The air defense forces managed to destroy 65 of them.
This information was reported on the Telegram channel of the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
The drones were launched from the directions of the Russian cities of Oryol, Bryansk, Kursk, Millerovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, and the temporarily occupied Chauda in Crimea.
The following were involved in repelling the attack:
- aviation;
- anti-aircraft missile troops;
- electronic warfare units;
- mobile fire groups of the Air Forces and the Defense Forces of Ukraine.
As of 09:30:
- the downing of 65 strike drones has been confirmed in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Poltava, Sumy, Odesa, and several other regions;
- 28 decoy drones were lost without negative consequences. Two of them flew towards Russia and Belarus.
- one drone remains in the airspace of Ukraine.
As a result of the drone attack, there have been damages to buildings of private enterprises, infrastructure facilities, multi-apartment and private houses, as well as vehicles.
