The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) has initiated a pre-trial investigation against Defense Minister Rustem Umerov. The investigation was prompted by suspicions of abuse of power.

This was reported by Glavpost, citing “Interfax-Ukraine.”

The inquiry commenced following a complaint from the public organization Center for Anti-Corruption (CAC), which was submitted to the bureau on January 27. The CAC accused the head of the Ministry of Defense of violating the law, referencing his decisions regarding personnel changes within the Defense Procurement Agency (DPA).

“The Minister of Defense, contrary to the law, refused to implement the decisions of the DPA Supervisory Board,” the Center stated.

According to their information, Umerov did not extend the contract with the agency's director, Marina Bezrukova, and dismissed two members of the Supervisory Board – Taras Chmut and Yuriy Dzhygyr.

NABU confirmed the opening of the case but declined to disclose any details. The agency has not revealed the grounds for initiating the investigation or the procedural status of Umerov.
