On the night of January 16, Russian forces launched an attack on Ukraine using 55 Shahed-type strike drones, along with various types of imitation drones. A total of 34 of these drones were shot down, while several others did not reach their intended targets.
This information was reported by the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The occupiers attacked Ukraine at night with drones launched from the directions of Millerovo, Orel, Bryansk, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk.
The air assault was countered by aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, mobile fire groups of the Air Forces, and Defense Forces.
As of 09:00, the destruction of 34 drones over the Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Kirovohrad, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia, and Mykolaiv regions has been confirmed.
Consequences of the strikes
In Chernihiv region, several drones hit a farm. In Kharkiv and Poltava regions, debris from the downed drones damaged private homes.
In Poltava region, energy infrastructure was affected. According to the regional military administration, 301 residential and 22 legal consumers were left without power.
Additionally, 18 enemy imitation drones were recorded, which lost signal locally without causing negative consequences.
