This is reported by Reuters citing sources familiar with the meeting's proceedings.
The agency's sources noted that Trump, Zelensky, and French President Emmanuel Macron had a conversation without advisors, but did not discuss specific details regarding the achievement of peace.
The elected U.S. president behaved "kindly, respectfully, openly, and seemed inclined to listen," the informed individuals shared.
Meanwhile, Zelensky used this meeting with Trump to build rapport and explain Ukraine's need for security guarantees in any negotiations.
A Reuters source in the Office of the President of Ukraine claims that during the meeting, the leaders discussed "some key points," including the necessity for guarantees for peace.
A contact stated that Trump was persuaded that merely achieving a ceasefire was insufficient, as the Russian leader could launch another attack on Ukraine if it does not have the appropriate guarantees. Regarding how Trump perceived this, a Zelensky Office official said: "He is considering all the details."
Reuters also reports that Macron and Zelensky explained to the elected U.S. president that Putin in 2024 is not the same as in 2017, when Trump previously dealt with him.
Additionally, the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime in Syria, which was supported by Russia, can be used as an argument for a firmer stance regarding Moscow in the upcoming negotiations.
On December 7, President Zelensky flew to Paris, where he was invited to the opening of the restored Notre-Dame Cathedral. The ceremony was attended by heads of state and government from about 40 countries worldwide.
During his visit to the Élysée Palace, the Ukrainian president also met with newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump and their French counterpart Emmanuel Macron. The meeting lasted only 35 minutes. Zelensky described it as "good" and "productive".
Meanwhile, Trump mentioned that Zelensky and Ukraine would like to reach an agreement with Russia to "stop this madness". Later, discussing the meeting in Paris, he called Zelensky's desire for peace "something new" and stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin has already lost the war.
