Zelensky: I will only meet with one Russian—Putin.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that he will not engage in meetings with Russian officials during peace negotiations, and is only willing to speak directly with the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin.

The head of state shared this during his speech at the panel "Strategic Investments: The Future of Ukrainian-American Security Cooperation" at the Munich Security Conference.

As explained by the head of state, he intends to discuss humanitarian issues with the Saudi side in Saudi Arabia and does not plan to meet with the Russians.

“I will not meet with the Russians. I do not know if they will like it or not… I will only meet with one Russian – Putin,” said the president.

According to him, this will only happen after he prepares a joint plan with U.S. President Donald Trump that will force Putin to end the war.

“Only in that case will I meet. There will be no other platforms with compromises,” emphasized Zelensky.

What preceded this?

U.S. President Donald Trump first spoke on the phone with Russian leader Vladimir Putin on February 12, and then with his Ukrainian counterpart, Vladimir Zelensky.

Afterward, he noted that he plans to visit Russia, while Putin will come to the U.S., but before that, the politicians are expected to meet in Saudi Arabia.

Subsequently, Trump stated that soon American and Russian officials would meet in Saudi Arabia to discuss the resolution of the war. This meeting will take place next week (February 17-23), and the Ukrainian side will also be part of it.

Zelensky mentioned that he will travel to the meeting in Saudi Arabia, which was previously announced by U.S. President Donald Trump. However, the Ukrainian leader stressed that he would not meet with the Russians there.
