Morozov shared this in an interview with "Ukrinform".

He recalled one of the assassination attempts on the president that was successfully thwarted.

In May, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the Office of the Prosecutor General reported that they had detained a group of Russian agents, including employees of the Special Operations Directorate (UGO), who were planning an assassination attempt on Zelensky, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR), Kyrylo Budanov, SBU Chief Vasyl Maliuk, and other Ukrainian officials.

The head of the UGO stated that the suspects are currently in the SBU detention center, where "certain procedural actions" are being conducted against them. He mentioned that there are currently no facts regarding the preparation of new assassination attempts.

According to him, state protection is a "complex multi-level system of measures—from gathering information to providing physical security."

As part of this, the UGO exchanges information with the SBU, the National Police, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs. There is an active exchange of information. Additionally, foreign partners also share intelligence on potential threats to Ukrainian officials.

When Zelensky travels to areas close to the front, "it involves camouflage and changing vehicles." However, the head of the UGO admits that such trips complicate his agency's work due to the need to allocate additional forces, camouflage, and secure communication.

“The beautiful and comfortable cars that drive around Kyiv are not used. We must give credit to the president—he is not afraid to go to such places,” Morozov explains.

He also mentioned that the UGO is currently working on creating a specialized unit that will focus on analytics and study the experiences of foreign colleagues during assassination attempts on foreign politicians.

Assassination Attempts on Ukrainian Leadership

Back in May 2022, the head of state reported 10 assassination attempts on his life. Later, in March 2024, Zelensky mentioned more than 10 attempts: “They say there are more than ten. But that’s what the officials, the special services, and the intelligence say, so I honestly don’t count that number.”

The HUR also reported more than 10 assassination attempts on intelligence chief Kyrylo Budanov, during which intelligence officers lost their lives.

Reuters spoke in July of this year with an unnamed high-ranking European official who had negotiations with Zelensky. He stated that the Ukrainian president allegedly has increasing paranoia about potential assassination attempts against him and attempts by Russia to destabilize the Ukrainian leadership.
