The agency highlighted that Rubio, in his conversation with Lavrov, reaffirmed Trump’s commitment to ending the war in Ukraine. Furthermore, the diplomats discussed the possibility of "potential joint efforts" on several other issues.
Earlier, President Donald Trump stated that American and Russian officials would soon meet in Saudi Arabia to discuss resolving the conflict.
On February 12, U.S. President Donald Trump first spoke by phone with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, and afterwards with his Ukrainian counterpart, Vladimir Zelensky.
Trump mentioned that he and Putin agreed that they wanted to "stop millions of deaths." According to the spokesperson for the Russian leader, Dmitry Peskov, Putin told Trump about the necessity of addressing the "root causes of the conflict" and invited the U.S. President to Moscow.
At the same time, Zelensky shared that he and Trump discussed the possibility of achieving peace, their readiness to work together at the team level, as well as technological capabilities, including drones and other modern productions. He thanked Trump for the "interest in what we can do together."
Now, according to Trump, it is expected that he will visit Moscow, while Putin will go to Washington, but before that, they will meet in Saudi Arabia.
