This was stated by Congressman Mike Turner, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, reports Voice of America.
The congressman also believes that Ukrainian forces should have the capability to strike legitimate military targets on Russian territory using weapons supplied by the U.S. or NATO allies, or their own weapons without restrictions.
Turner emphasized that the involvement of North Korean troops in the war against Ukraine should be a red line for the U.S. and NATO, and that allies should not rule out attacking North Korean forces if they engage in combat in Ukraine.
He is convinced that North Korean troops "have no place in Europe; they should not attack a European country."
"The United States and NATO allies need to seriously discuss and consider the possibility of directly attacking North Korean forces if they are in Ukraine and attacking it," Turner stated.
At the same time, Mike Turner stressed that the decision to attack North Korean troops does not have to be made necessarily, but in his view, a reasonable discussion on this topic should take place.
"I think they should discuss that North Korean troops should not be free from being legitimate military targets for the United States and NATO," Turner added.
On October 22, President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that he received information about Russia preparing two units of North Korean military personnel. These may be two brigades of 6,000 soldiers each. Prior to this, North Korean soldiers were filmed at a military base of the 127th Motorized Rifle Division of the Russian Federation in the village of Sergeyevka in Primorsky Krai.
By October 24, the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine confirmed the arrival of the first North Korean units in the Kursk region. Ukrainian intelligence believes that North Korean forces will be deployed in combat zones against Ukraine as early as October 27-28.
Russian leader Vladimir Putin does not deny the presence of North Korean military personnel in Russia, citing the partnership agreement between Russia and North Korea. According to him, how the countries will implement the terms of this agreement is “our business”.
In light of this, South Korean media reported that South Korea may consider supplying offensive weapons to Ukraine and even sending its personnel to interrogate prisoners from North Korea.
