Georgia has launched an investigation into possible election fraud.

Law enforcement officials in Georgia have initiated an investigation into potential fraud during the parliamentary elections held on October 26, following a report from the Central Election Commission.

The Georgian prosecutor's office reported this.

They mention signs of a crime outlined in Article 164 of the country's Criminal Code — influencing the will of voters and/or violating the secrecy of voting.

The prosecutor's office believes that the President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili, may possess evidence of forgery, which is why she has been summoned for questioning on October 31.

Law enforcement officials promised to carry out all necessary investigative and procedural actions to examine the facts mentioned by the Central Election Commission, the President of Georgia, some politicians, and representatives of election observation missions.

They assured that as part of the investigation, they would interview everyone who might have information regarding the alleged crime.

Additionally, law enforcement is investigating numerous violations detected during the pre-election period and on election day.

Election in Georgia

On October 26, elections for the national parliament took place in Georgia. According to the counting of 99.9% of the votes, the "Georgian Dream" party won, which has been in power until now. It received only 53.93% of the voters' support.

However, the opposition Georgian political forces declared the day before that they would not recognize the election results in the country. The results were also not recognized by President Salome Zourabichvili.

A video surfaced online showing an unknown man throwing a whole pack of ballots into a ballot box at one of the polling stations. At other locations, scuffles occurred.

Nevertheless, the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, stated that the composition of the government will be approved, despite the opposition's refusal to acknowledge the election results.
