Ukraine can fight without U.S. assistance at least until mid-2025, according to the Finance Minister.

Ukraine possesses sufficient resources and weaponry to continue fighting against Russia for at least the first half of 2025.
Министр финансов заявил, что Украина сможет вести боевые действия без поддержки США как минимум до середины 2025 года.
Министр финансов Сергей Марченко

Sergey Marchenko stated this in an interview with the Spanish publication El Pais.

According to him, Ukraine is currently receiving the necessary weapons from the United States, and by 2025, it will allocate sufficient funds from its budget for the purchase of ammunition and essential military equipment.

“This means that at least for the first half of the year and beyond, we will be well-armed to counter this aggression,” the minister says.

At the same time, he acknowledged that a change in the presidential administration in the U.S. could pose a “problem” and a “challenge” for Ukraine. In Marchenko's view, the priority strategy should be “building trust for cooperation” with the team of newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump.

Therefore, to navigate the uncertainty surrounding the continuation of aid, Ukraine must use its time “very wisely” and be capable of negotiating with the new administration.

It is worth noting that the team of current U.S. President Joe Biden assured that they are committed to doing everything necessary for Ukraine to be able to fight next year when Donald Trump takes office.

In particular, media reports indicated that Biden requested Congress to provide Ukraine with an additional $24 billion in military and financial assistance.

However, U.S. House Speaker and Republican Mike Johnson stated that he will not bring this aid to a vote.

Meanwhile, during the campaign, Trump mentioned that he would stop financial aid to Ukraine, referring to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as “the best salesman among all the politicians who ever lived.”

Recently, he suggested again that when he takes office, Ukraine is unlikely to receive the same level of assistance as it did from the previous administration.
