Trump shared his personal number with Zelensky, who promised to return Usyk's belt. Axios revealed the details of their conversation.

During a phone conversation with Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky promised to present him with the championship belt of boxer Oleksandr Usyk. In response, the American leader provided his personal phone number to Zelensky, inviting him to call directly whenever he wished.
Трамп передал Зеленскому свой личный номер, а тот пообещал вернуть пояс Усика. Axios опубликовал подробности их беседы.

This is written by Axios, referencing an unnamed Ukrainian official and three other sources familiar with the conversation details.

Trump told Zelensky that he had the impression Putin wants an agreement, but the Ukrainian president expressed a more skeptical view regarding Moscow's intentions.

“Zelensky's message to Trump was: 'You have leverage over Putin'”, one of Axios's sources said.

At the same time, the U.S. president told Zelensky that he understands his concerns about talking to Putin, but emphasized that this is unavoidable if he wants diplomatic efforts to succeed.

“I need to talk to Putin to save Ukraine,” Trump reportedly told Zelensky, according to sources.

The Ukrainian president believes that Putin is merely telling Trump what he wants to hear. “Putin told you he wants an agreement only because he fears you, because you are strong,” his interlocutors quoted him as saying.

In response, the U.S. president suggested that he might be right, but he had the impression that Putin is serious about his intentions.

The American president told his counterpart that he understands Ukraine will need security guarantees in any future agreement and that he considers European peacekeeping forces as one of the solutions, sources say.

Trump described Zelensky's upcoming meeting with Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Munich as crucial for initiating the diplomatic process. He also requested that Kyiv appoint a negotiating team.

Additionally, Zelensky mentioned that during the night before the conversation, Russia launched strikes on Kyiv and other cities. Trump asked if U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent had arrived for his visit by then. The Ukrainian president replied that he came afterward, and Trump joked that if Bessent had heard the strikes, he “would have run back to the U.S.”

During the conversation, Trump did not mention the U.S. representative for the Russian-Ukrainian war, Kito Kellogg.

More about Trump's calls

On February 12, U.S. President Donald Trump first spoke on the phone with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, and afterward with his Ukrainian counterpart, Vladimir Zelensky.

Trump reported that he and Putin agreed that they want to “stop millions of deaths.” According to the Russian leader's press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, Putin told Trump about the need to eliminate the “root causes of the conflict” and invited the U.S. president to Moscow.

At the same time, Zelensky stated that he and Trump discussed the possibility of achieving peace, their readiness to work together at the team level, as well as technological capabilities, including drones and other modern productions. He thanked Trump for “his interest in what we can do together.”

Now, according to Trump, it is expected that he will visit Moscow, while Putin will go to Washington, but before that, they will meet in Saudi Arabia.
