The U.S. will send $500 million in weapons to Ukraine. CNN reports this is part of the Pentagon's "historic measures."

The U.S. Department of Defense announced that it will be included in the latest aid package for Ukraine, which was announced the day before by the White House.

This is stated on the Pentagon's website.

The estimated cost of the aid package is 500 million dollars, which will be allocated from the reserves of the American Department of Defense.

The package includes:

  • ammunition for countering unmanned aerial systems (c-UAS);
  • ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS);
  • 155-mm and 105-mm artillery ammunition;
  • high-speed anti-radiation missiles (HARM);
  • unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs);
  • mine-resistant ambush-protected vehicles (MRAP);
  • high mobility multi-purpose wheeled vehicles (HMMWV);
  • light tactical vehicles;
  • protection against chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear weapons;
  • Javelin and AT-4 anti-tank systems;
  • tube-launched, optically tracked, wire-guided missiles (TOW);
  • ammunition for small arms;
  • equipment and ammunition for explosive works;
  • spare parts, auxiliary equipment, services, training, and transportation.

On December 12, White House advisor John Kirby announced that US President Joe Biden approved the 72nd aid package for Ukraine, which will include additional air defense resources. However, the amount and details were not disclosed at that time.

Meanwhile, CNN, citing an unnamed Biden administration official, writes that the US is taking "historic steps to move a vast amount of weapons to Ukraine over the next five weeks."

"From today until mid-January, we will deliver hundreds of thousands of artillery shells, thousands of rockets, hundreds of armored vehicles, and other critical resources to Ukraine," the official stated.

Biden's Actions Before Leaving Office

On November 17, the New York Times reported, citing American officials, that US President Joe Biden permitted Ukrainian forces to use long-range ATACMS missiles to strike Russian territory. Later, the US State Department officially confirmed this authorization from Joe Biden.

Additionally, the American president reportedly approved the transfer of anti-personnel mines to Ukraine amid concerns over the rapid advance of Russian troops in the eastern part of the country, as reported by the Washington Post.

Furthermore, the Biden administration submitted a statement to Congress expressing its intention to cancel nearly half of Ukraine's debt for economic assistance—approximately 4.65 billion dollars.

The team of current US President Joe Biden has assured that it aims to do everything necessary for Ukraine to continue its fight next year when Donald Trump takes office.
