Details: On Friday, February 28, the Romanian Ministry of Defense received a notification that fragments resembling drone debris were found near the city of Galați, which is close to the Ukrainian town of Reni and the southern borders of Moldova. The debris was located in an uninhabited area approximately 500 meters from the border with Moldova.

On March 1, a team of specialists from the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and intelligence arrived at the site.

Later that day, it was reported that the find was debris from a Russian drone. An unexploded warhead was left intact, which was safely neutralized on-site.

The report added that the area of the discovery would be intensively patrolled for some time, and people were urged to avoid the site until all checks and risk mitigations were completed.

What preceded it: A similar incident occurred in January when a drone fell in the area of the village of Plavru opposite the Ukrainian city of Izmail.

The North Atlantic Alliance began additional surveillance of Romania's airspace on September 29, deploying another long-range radar surveillance aircraft (AWACS).

It is worth noting that Russian drones have repeatedly fallen on the territory of Moldova. In early September, a Russian "Shahed" drone crossed into Latvian territory for the first time via Belarus and crashed there.
