They reported a deterioration in the security situation and an increase in shelling. As a result, the company decided to suspend operations at the mine, evacuating essential personnel and their families.
The site accounted for about half of the total volume of Ukrainian coal production carried out by "Metinvest".
The company added that the final impact of the suspension of operations at the mine near Pokrovsk in Pyschany is still being assessed, and decisions regarding the resumption of work will be made based on the situation at the front.
It is worth noting that the president of the association of enterprises "Ukrmetallurgprom," Alexander Kalenkov, mentioned to "Suspilne" that the coal extracted near Pokrovsk is unique and can only be replaced by imports.
Additionally, the head of the Ukrainian Metallurgists Association, Alexander Kalenkov, stated that losing control over the mine would lead to a significant reduction in steel production in Ukraine.
The Pokrovsk Mine Administration was established in 1990. It is the largest enterprise in Ukraine and one of the largest in Eastern Europe for coking coal extraction, reports the company's website.
The industrial coal reserves amount to 200 million tons, with a production lifespan of over 40 years.
