This is mentioned in the statement by Orban and comments from Litvin to journalists, which are quoted by "Interfax-Ukraine".
According to Orban, at the end of Hungary's EU presidency, the country "made new efforts for peace," but Zelensky allegedly rejected them. Orban claims that he proposed a ceasefire to the Ukrainian president on Christmas and a large-scale prisoner exchange.
“We did what we could!” — summarized the Hungarian Prime Minister.
At the same time, Litvin explained that Hungary did not inform Ukraine about its contacts with Russia and "discussed nothing" with Kyiv in advance.
“Ukraine did not authorize Hungary for anything,” — emphasized the advisor to the Ukrainian president.
Litvin also highlighted that Ukraine is committed to achieving a full peace and is working with partners to attain this goal. Additionally, he noted that Ukraine continues to work on the release of prisoners.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban had a more than hour-long phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on December 11 and discussed the Russian-Ukrainian war with him.
“These are the most dangerous weeks of the Russian-Ukrainian war. We are taking every possible diplomatic step to advocate for a ceasefire and negotiations,” — wrote Orban.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky emphasized that discussions about the war against Ukraine being waged by Russia cannot take place without Kyiv's involvement.
“We all hope that Viktor Orban will not at least call Assad in Moscow to listen to his hour-long lectures,” — noted Zelensky.
The day before, on December 10, Orban met with elected U.S. President Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago residence.
