The statement was made by the following political parties: "Coalition for Change," "Unity – National Movement," "Strong Georgia," and "Gakharia for Georgia."
The opposition emphasizes that the current Parliament of Georgia is not legitimate, thus the sitting President of Georgia remains the head of state, the Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Forces, and the highest representative of Georgia in foreign relations.
"We, the political parties that won the elections on October 26, do not recognize the self-proclaimed authority or any of its branches. The only legitimate state institution is the presidency. Therefore, the only legitimate representative of Georgia is Salome Zurabishvili", the statement reads.
They declared that they "do not recognize the so-called presidential elections," scheduled for December 14 by the "so-called Parliament, which has neither international nor domestic political legitimacy."
The opposition is demanding new parliamentary elections in the country.
Mass protests continue in Georgia due to the government's decision to "suspend" negotiations for EU membership. A new wave of protests erupted following rallies against the results of the parliamentary elections.
The Georgian opposition does not recognize the results of the parliamentary elections, where the "Georgian Dream" party won. International observers noted that the voting was marred by unequal conditions, pressure, and tension. Georgian law enforcement officials opened 47 criminal cases related to probable offenses connected with the parliamentary elections. In particular, accusations were made against two suspects who dropped a whole stack of ballots into the ballot box at one of the polling stations.
The European Parliament did not recognize the results of the parliamentary elections in Georgia and called for new ones. However, the Tbilisi court dismissed all lawsuits from opposition political forces and public organizations that demanded the invalidation of the final protocols from the district commissions.
Opposition parties in Georgia announced an indefinite street protest demanding new parliamentary elections. Meanwhile, the "Georgian Dream" unilaterally approved the new parliament, appointed the date for presidential elections, nominated their candidate, and declared a refusal to negotiate EU membership until 2028.
