Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly announced this in Montreal following the conclusion of the Peace Formula conference, reports "Ukrinform".
The head of Canada's Foreign Ministry stated that the country supports Ukraine's use of long-range weapons against targets within Russia, as "Ukraine needs this for self-defense".
According to her, Canada is also working to persuade other nations to "adopt this position".
The Politico publication reported back in late May that U.S. President Joe Biden secretly granted permission to Ukraine to strike Russia using weapons supplied by Washington.
Subsequently, the press service of President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the granting of this permission. However, they mentioned that certain restrictions still remain — specifically, American weapons can be used only in areas bordering Kharkiv region.
Later, the U.S. National Security Council clarified that the permission to use American weapons on Russian territory is not limited solely to the defense of Kharkiv region.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken noted that the United States will continue to "adapt and adjust" if necessary.
In addition to the U.S., Ukraine has already received permissions to use the supplied weapons at its discretion from several partners, although not from all.
