The "Azov" Brigade (formerly a battalion, then a regiment) was established in the spring of 2014 and gained a reputation as one of the most combat-ready military formations of the Ukrainian army.

In 2014-2015, "Azov" participated in the liberation of Mariupol, the battles for Ilovaisk, and the Pavlopol-Shyrokyne offensive operation.

In 2022, "Azov" fighters, along with other units, defended Mariupol for 86 days, of which 82 were spent completely surrounded. In May, the Mariupol garrison received orders to cease defense. Over 2,500 Ukrainian defenders were taken prisoner. As of autumn 2024, about 700 "Azov" members were still in captivity.

After reformation, "Azov" participates in offensive and defensive operations in the hottest areas of the eastern front.
